Building a Shared Services Organization

The successful establishment of shared services requires clear, strong governance blended with trust, credibility and persistence. Early demonstration of concrete benefits is essential. Effective shared service operations can act as cultural and organizational pathfinders for other shared-service capabilities. The personal drive, vision and tenacity of the CIO and or CEO are critical to success in initially skeptical or hostile enterprise environments. Shared IT service capabilities deliver economies of scale and can create cohesion among previously disparate enterprise partners. The effective creation of shared capabilities and their efficient operation need clear vision; strong governance; determined, charismatic leadership; and patience.

Three key takeaways:

  1. Shared services is not the same as centralization
  2. Need a clear mandate and executive support
  3. Change Management is key to success.

Digital Media Services

Consumers want compelling experiences. Content creators and publishers need to efficiently meet that demand across the very challenging technology landscape of evolving bandwidth, DRM, security, access networks, and constantly more capable consumer devices. Creators and publishers need scalable and highly reliable workflow automation that handles metadata, media transformation, data normalization, keyword tagging, and packaging. Solutions also need to care for storage and library issues and rapid content availability through the system to the consumer.

Putting the Mobile Back in Mobile Strategy

Businesses across all industries are beginning to find that mobile is not only an enticing opportunity, but an urgent priority. To develop and execute a successful mobile strategy, CIOs are charged with sorting through priorities in an environment where everybody just wants it done "like yesterday." This session will discuss key considerations for the shift to mobile, including establishing a mobile governance council, crossing the user population divide to include raw recruits and near-retirees alike, involving business people without ruining deadlines and budgets, and selecting and managing suppliers in a segment filled with brand new businesses run by college dropouts.

The session will offer two examples for Ipad available to demo.

Three key takeaway points:

  • Sort priorities into three main areas: customer-facing, front end improvement or internal execution. Remember to plan holistically. If your front end is now simple and easy, but the rest of the customer experience is not, you've created a gap to manage.
  • Divide and conquer - find 3-5 providers for development. Many start-ups fail or can't scale. Be prepared to negotiate and manage differently. Insist on code review before final acceptance.
  • Structure with heavy business involvement - on the governance council, in the design phase and with beta testing. Everyone has an opinion and everyone is an expert app user.

The New Age of Digital Transformation

The role of the CIO has changed in recent time and no longer are Senior IT Executives being looked at as a cost center, stuck within the four walls and a data center but as innovators who can truly impact the bottom line of the business.

It doesn't matter where your company falls within the Media and Entertainment industry, transitioning to a digitized environment will be key to ensure optimum performance. Consumers are accessing digital content more than ever and via different mediums. How are innovative CIOs combating the ever changing technologies and connecting them with their brand? In this session we will look to cover the impact of new technologies which will help streamline digital supply chain and increase time to market as well as uncover new techniques used to monetize digital content.

Creating a Culture of Innovation

Technology creates new opportunities and changes the way we think about doing business... that's obvious. Technologists who are passionate about those opportunities and the change it brings create a culture of innovation. Innovation is more than just creating the killer app. It's a state of mind that creates an environment that gushes innovation throughout the organization. A culture if innovation flourishes in both creating revenue generating solutions as well as increasing profitability through optimizing operations by smart technology decisions.

How does an IT leader today create a culture of innovation? How can you transform your IT organization from order takers who are perceived as being detached from 'the business' and moving them to a place where they understand business and naturally make great business decisions that use technology?

This session will enable attendees to assess the current state of information security and its key components within their respective organizations, highlighting specific experiences and lessons learned. Discussion topics will include:

  • Methods for Determining Maturity
  • Communication at the Executive Level
  • Achieving the Future State
  • Budget & Strategy: Working Smart

Monetizing Big Data

The world of big data is all the buzz these days. As a CIO we must find ways to help our BI platforms become smarter and that will require finding new sets of data to mash-up with your own data. Additionally, as an executive, we are always looking for new ways to add new revenue streams to our companies. Understanding our data and assigning a monetary value to it isn't easy.

Data Center Consolidation for Network Security

One of the top initiatives in any data center today is consolidation. Saving energy, reducing our thermal and carbon footprint, decreasing physical space and optimizing engineers will all help the bottom line, as well as our environment.

But for mobile operators, sacrificing performance or security in order to cut costs is simply not an option. During this session, we will lead a discussion on strategies for consolidating your network security infrastructure, while still keeping up with the rigorous scalability and reliability demands of the mobile network.

Are You Preparing Yourself with Digital Strategies for Your Social Media?

Social networking websites and services such as Facebook and Twitter have become primary communication media for a new generation of technically-savvy and digitally aware consumers. Driven by high broadband penetration, maturing social connections and readily available, affordable Internet-enabled multimedia devices, these sites and services are earning more and more attention of advertisers, consumer product companies and enterprises that are using social media to reach their customers, build brand loyalty and communicate with geographically dispersed employees, suppliers and partners.

This open-forum session will discuss developments in social networking trends and shifts in two long-term communication trends: the shift in communications patterns from point-to-point, two-way conversations, to many-to-many, collaborative communications; and the transition of control of the communications environment to open Internet platform providers.
